A small town in Eastern Samar was jolted with a magnitude 5.3 earthquake late evening on Monday.
The quake which had a depth of 5 kilometers occurred at 11:08 p.m. northeast of Mercedes in Eastern Samar.
It was tectonic in origin according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and was felt in the following areas:
- Intensity IV – Mercedes, General McArthur, Giporlos, Guiuan, Hernani, Quinapondan, and Salcedo, Eastern Samar
- Intensity III – Balangiga, and Lawaan, Eastern Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte
- Intensity II – Abuyog, Dulag, and Palo, Leyte
Phivolcs warned of aftershocks though no damages have been reported.
