The Department of Education has laid out their contingency plans for schools that sit above the West Valley Fault. Mainly those buildings right above the fault will be broken down and the resulting space will be closed off for students. Those that are near the faults will be retrofitted in hopes that they can withstand the earthquake should it ever occur. Some buildings in Pedro E. Diaz High School will not be used anymore. Similar decision was made for the affected buildings in Muntinlupa City. Classes in Buli Elementary School were moved to June 8 to better prepare for the necessary contingencies since some of the buildings won’t be used as well. June 1 will still be the start of school in Karahume Elementary School in Norzagaray, Bulacan and the school officials and personnel will orient the community leaders of their contingency plans.
While Barangka NHS does not sit above the fault part of the building is within the five-meter buffer zone. Though engineers have determined the building to be safe DepEd took measures to ensure the safety of both faculty and students by moving grades 7 and 8 to Tanong HS and J. dela Pena NHS for grades 9 and 10.
