The Metro Manila Development Authority is romping up their preparation for “the Big One” by recruiting 8,000 volunteers that will help with rescue operations should the devastating earthquake do occur. This group of volunteers will be divided into the 4 quadrants of the Metro area. Two thousand rescuers will be assigned each for the following quadrant of the Oplan Metro Yakal:
- North Quadrant: Caloocan, Navotas, Valenzuela, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, San Juan
- West Quadrant: Manila, Malabon
- South Quadrant: Las Piñas, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Makati, Pateros, Taguig, Pasay
- East Quadrant: Pasig, Marikina.
Those who are interested to volunteer must be physically fit, (just imagine victims needing to rescue the rescuer). They should be prepared to take the 3-day crash course on earthquake response. Training will include extracting bodies from rubble and search and rescue operations.
Those interested head on over to their website- BePreparedMetroManila.com to sign up. MMDA prefers student volunteers whose family are in the nearby provinces not affected by the fault.
