Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) Director Renato Solidum clarified that the series of earthquakes that are felt mainly in the areas of Region IV-A (CALABARZON) are not due to the movement of the Valley Fault System.

Director Solidum issued this statement due to the concerns voiced by some netizens that the tremors may somehow be connected to the Valley Fault System. Some even were wary that it may trigger the movement of the fault.

In a recent interview with CNN Philippines, Dir. Solidum stated that, “We are not seeing movement of the Valley Fault System but we know that there are seizures in the area and the seizures where generated in 1911 [quake],”.

Still according to him, the recent earthquakes were due to sudden movements which may persist as magma moves up the volcano.
