A magnitude 5.1 earthquake just hit the province of Masbate early this morning Monday. The quake hit 12 kilometers southeast of the town of Cataingan with a depth of 10 kilometers.
Phivolcs determined the occurrence at 4:23 in the morning and warned of possible aftershocks. The magnitude has been lowered to 4.8.
According to Renato Solidum, director of Phivolcs, the tremor was the aftershock of the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that occurred in the province last August and was tectonic in origin.
The following instrumental intensities were reported:
- Intensity III – Masbate City
- Intensity II – Legaspi City
- Intensity I – Naval, Biliran; Palo, Leyte; Roxas City
A slight tremor was felt in the towns of Irosin and Magallanes in Sorsogon.
