A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck 285 kilometers southeast of Saranggani Island in Davao Occidental.

The quake hit the area around 7:48 a.m. and has been determined to be tectonic in origin according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

It has a depth of 156 kilometers.

The magnitude of the quake reached Cateel, Davao Oriental and registered as Intensity 2.

No damage has been reported but Phivolcs warned that aftershocks are possible.
