A magnitude 4.8 earthquake rattled the peaceful local town of Donsol Friday evening at 10:28. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) initially reported it at 5.0 but later revised the magnitude to 4.8.
According to the agency the quake was tectonic in origin and struck about 8 kilometers south of Donsol in the province of Sorsogon.
It has a depth of 20 kilometers and prompted several aftershocks.
The following intensities were reported:
Intensity 5: Donsol, Sorsogon;
Intensity 4: Pilar, Sorsogon
Intensity 3: Irosin and Juban, Sorsogon; Legazpi City; and Canaman, Camarines Sur.
The following instrumental intensities were also reported in nearby areas:
Intensity III – Legazpi City
Intensity II – Iriga City; Pili, Camarines Sur; Malunay, Quezon
Intensity I – Sipocot, Camarines Sur
The earthquake was followed by magnitude 2.5 at 10:32 pm; magnitude 2.3 at 10:33 pm; magnitude 3.1 at 10:41 pm; magnitude 2.4 at 10:44 pm and magnitude 4.0 at 10:58 pm.
