A town in Surigao del sur was hit with a magnitude 5.3 earthquake Wednesday morning. The quake which rocked the small town of Cortes hit at 9:12 a.m. was tectonic in origin according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
It had a depth of 10 kilometers with the epicenter at 49 kilometers east of Cortes.
Areas near the epicenter recorded the following intensities:
- Intensity IV – Tandag City, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity III – Lanuza, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity II – Lianga, Surigao del Sur
There were no damages but aftershocks are expected.
