Another earthquake, this time with a magnitude of 5 hit the province of Sarangani before noon today.
The tremor hit at 11:24 a.m. some 36 kilometers northwest of Balut Island with a depth of focus of 10 kilometers.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) determined the tremor to be tectonic in origin and that it was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that occurred last Nov. 17.
The agency later downgraded the magnitude level to 4.6.
The areas below reported the following intensities:
Intensity III– Sarangani, Jose Abad Santos, Malita, and Santa Maria, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL; Alabel, Maitum, Maasim, Glan, and Malungon, SARANGANI; Tampakan and Tupi, SOUTH COTABATO
Intensity II– CITY OF GENERAL SANTOS; Polomolok and Lake Sebu, SOUTH COTABATO; Malapatan, SARANGANI; CITY OF KORONADAL; Matanao, Malalag, Sulop, Kiblawan, Magsaysay, and Bansalan, DAVAO DEL SUR
Intensity I – Surallah, Banga and Santo Niño, SOUTH COTABATO
Phivolcs said that damage and aftershocks are not expected.
