An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 just struck Surigao del Sur Tuesday night at 9:58 p.m. according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The quake’s epicenter was located 64 kilometers east of the town of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur with a depth of 10 kilometers and been determined by PHIVOLCS to be of tectonic in origin.
PHIVOLCS assessed it to be an aftershock of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the region last December 2.
These areas reported the following intensities:
Intensity V– Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
Intensity III – Bislig City, Surigao del Sur

While the following areas reported the following instrumental intensities:
Intensity II – Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Tandag and Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
Intensity I – City of Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte
The agency said that no damage and aftershocks were expected from the recent tremor.
