The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported about three consecutive tremors in the Ilocos Sur area yesterday.
First was a magnitude 4.5 tremor that hit at 3:04 a.m. Its epicenter was located 120 kilometers north of Santa Catalina.
Another, this time a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred at 9:09 a.m. with its epicenter located some 102 kilometers north of Santa Catalina town.
It was tectonic in origin with a depth of focus of 29 kilometers.
Almost at the same time, another quake was recorded 111 kilometers north of the same town which has also been determined to be tectonic in origin with a depth of focus of 10 kilometers.
No damage was reported but Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks.
