West Valley Fault

Residents near Libjo town in Dinagat Islands were surprised with a magnitude 5 earthquake Sunday evening.

The quake which as tectonic in origin hit at 11:43 p.m. some 9 kilometers northeast of Libjo. It had a depth of focus of 104 kilometers.

The following intensities have been reported in these areas:

Intensity IV – Libjo, Loreto, and Tubajon, DINAGAT ISLANDS

Intensity III – Basilisa, and San Jose, DINAGAT ISLANDS

Intensity II – Dinagat, and Cagdianao, DINAGAT ISLANDS; Claver, SURIGAO DEL NORTE

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned of possible aftershocks. No damage were reported.
