A magnitude 6.3 earthquake just struck near Davao region yesterday morning. The report came from the United States Geological Survey.
The epicenter of the quake was found to be 374 kilometers northeast of Baganga in Davao Oriental. It struck at 9:58 a.m. and was determined to be tectonic in origin.
It had a depth of focus of 34 kilometers.
The following intensities were reported in the following area:
Intensity III – City of Bislig, SURIGAO DEL SUR; Tarragona, DAVAO ORIENTAL
Intensity II – Lingig, SURIGAO DEL SUR; Baganga, Boston, San Isidro, City of Mati, Manay, and Caraga, DAVAO ORIENTAL; Glan, SARANGANI; City of Tagum, DAVAO DEL NORTE; CITY OF DAVAO; Santa Cruz, DAVAO DEL SUR; Tulunan, COTABATO
Intensity I – Barobo and Tagbina, SURIGAO DEL SUR; Governor Generoso, and Cateel, DAVAO ORIENTAL; City of Digos, DAVAO DEL SUR; M’lang, COTABATO
No tsunami alert has been triggered and no damage reported but aftershocks are expected.
Magnitude 5.6 Quake Reported in Davao Oriental
A report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) stated that another tremor occurred off the waters of Davao Oriental.
The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 this time struck off the shores of Balut Island at 2:24 p.m. with the epicenter located some 206 kilometers southeast of the island located in the municipality of Sarangani.
It had a depth of 10 kilometers and was also tectonic in origin.
No damage and aftershocks were expected.
