An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 just hit off the shore of Davao Occidental last Saturday afternoon according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The tremor hit at 1:33 p.m. with its epicenter located to be about 248 kilometers southeast of Balut Island in the town of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

Phivolcs determined the depth of focus to be 16 kilometers and that it was tectonic in origin.

No aftershocks are expected, and no damage were reported.
