An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 was reported yesterday, November 27 at 11:10 a.m. in the province of Ilocos Norte.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) determined the quake to be tectonic in origin with its epicenter located at 8 kilometers northeast of Burgos. It has a depth of focus of 9 kilometers.

According to reports received by the Philippine News Agency, the tremor prompted capitol workers to vacate the building for safety. They were later allowed to go back to work after engineers from the engineering department declared the establishment to be safe.

The following intensities have been recorded these areas:

Intensity IV- Pasuquin, Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, and Vintar, ILOCOS NORTE

Intensity III- Adams, Bacarra, Sarrat, Piddig, City of Batac, Dumalneg, City of Laoag, Paoay,
and San Nicolas, ILOCOS NORTE

Intensity II – Carasi, Dingras, Marcos, Banna, Pinili, Nueva Era and Currimao, ILOCOS NORTE;
Sinait, ILOCOS SUR; Claveria, Sanchez Mira, Pamplona and Aparri, CAGAYAN

Phivolcs stated that they are expecting some damage and that aftershocks are possible to occur.
