The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is setting a clear direction for the future of Philippine infrastructure: projects that are fairly priced, rapidly completed, and built to last. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to delivering infrastructure developments in 2026 that balance cost-efficiency with durability and public safety.

According to Dizon, achieving the right price without sacrificing quality is not only possible—it has already been proven. He pointed to recent government-led construction efforts that were completed in record time while meeting structural standards. Among these was the Piggatan Detour Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan, which was finished in just 60 days, demonstrating how streamlined processes can deliver urgent infrastructure without inflated costs.

Other notable projects include the swift repair of the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City following damage, where temporary medical tents and smart facilities were also installed to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services. In Masbate, damaged school buildings affected by Typhoon Opong were renovated promptly, allowing students to safely return to classrooms.

Looking ahead, the DPWH expects to complete two major infrastructure works in the coming days. The damaged section of the Bukidnon–Davao Road (BuDa Road) in Quezon, Bukidnon is slated for completion by January 6, while the San Juanico Bridge in Tacloban City—currently undergoing repairs—has already been partially reopened to accommodate heavy vehicles.

Dizon emphasized that the agency’s long-term goal is to apply the same urgency and efficiency used during disaster response to all future infrastructure projects. This approach aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure public structures are resilient, properly maintained, and delivered at a reasonable cost for taxpayers.
