After a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in Davao Oriental, a magnitude 6.1 tremor struck Davao Occidental near lunch time.

The tremor hit near Balut Island in the town of Sarangani at 10:26 a.m. The quake hit some 275 kilometers southeast of the island.

Phivolcs determined the depth at 33 kilometers and was tectonic in origin. It was initially reported to be at magnitude 6.5 with a depth of 66 kilometers.

Officials in Sarangani reported no damage and no evacuations were made. An official at the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office said they felt a weak tremor following the quake.
