The Philippine Insititute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 5 earthquake just hit parts of Mindanao’s Caraga region yesterday.

Phivolcs determined the epicenter of the quake in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur at 12:47 p.m.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 22 kilometers. It was felt at Intensity III in Butuan City, Agusan del Sur.

The following intensities were recorded:

  • – Intensity II: Cagwait, Surigao del Sur
  • – Intensity I: Surigao City, Surigao del Norte
  • – Intensity I (instrumental): Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte; Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte; Tandag, Surigao del Sur

No damage and aftershocks were expected.
