A report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) stated that a magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook the province of Batangas yesterday evening.
The quake which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 90 kilometers hit at 6:42 p.m. some 24 kilometers northwest of Calatagan town.

Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol said that though damage to infrastructure maybe unlikely, there is a possibility of aftershocks.
