An island off the coast of Cagayan was hit today with a magnitude 4.9 earthquake.
The quake occurred at 1:30 early Tuesday morning and has been determined by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) to be tectonic in origin.
It had a depth of 4 kilometers and struck 21 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island.
The following intensities have been reported in these areas:
Intensity V – Calayan, CAGAYAN
Intensity IV – Pagudpud and Bangui, ILOCOS NORTE
Intensity III – Burgos and Pasuquin, ILOCOS NORTE
Instrumental Intensities were reported from the following areas:
Intensity II – City of Laoag, ILOCOS NORTE
Intensity I – Aparri, CAGAYAN
Phivolcs stated that no damage was reported and that no aftershocks are expected.
