A magnitude 5 earthquake just struck the province of Surigao del Sur this Sunday afternoon.

The tremor which occurred at 12:43 p.m. struck 35 kilometers northeast of the town of Cortes according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

It had a depth of 11 kilometers and was felt as Intensity II at Tandag, Surigao del Sur and at Intensity I in the city of Cabadbaran in Agusan del Norte.

PHIVOLCS has issued warning of possible aftershocks. No damage was expected from the tremor.
