A magnitude 5.7 tremor was felt in some parts of Surigao del Sur early Wednesday evening according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The quake which struck at 8:32 p.m. was tectonic in origin as per PHIVOLCS and that it was located some 30 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan in the said province.

It had a depth of focus of 26 kilometers and was an aftershock of the deadly magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck in the same place last December 2 based on the findings of state seismologists.

The following intensities have been reported:

Intensity V – City of Bislig and Hinatuan, SURIGAO DEL SUR

Intensity IV – CITY OF BUTUAN; Tagbina, SURIGAO DEL SUR

Intensity III – City of Gingoog and Magsaysay, MISAMIS ORIENTAL; Maco, Nabunturan, and Pantukan, DAVAO DE ORO; Cagwait and City of Tandag, SURIGAO DEL SUR

Intensity II – Libona, San Fernando, and Talakag, BUKIDNON; Balingasag, MISAMIS ORIENTAL; CITY OF CAGAYAN DE ORO; Kapalong, City of Panabo, and City of Tagum, DAVAO DEL NORTE; CITY OF DAVAO; Claver, SURIGAO DEL NORTE

Intensity I – Catarman, Guinsiliban, Mambajao, and Sagay, CAMIGUIN; Bonifacio, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL; City of Kidapawan, COTABATO

No damage or aftershocks were expected according to PHIVOLCS.
