Residents of Eastern Samar was rocked by a magnitude 6.1 earthquake Monday afternoon as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake which hit at 2:09 p.m had a depth of 57 kilometers and struck some 18 kilometers northeast of the town of San Julian in the said province.

At a local police station, although there were no reports of injury, one of the beams of the roof was broken according to a police officer stationed there.

The provincial board’s regular session in Cebu during that time was temporarily suspended. All board members headed to the open grounds “as rehearsed” according to Vice Governor Glenn Soco.

Students and employees of the Eastern Visayas State University also immediately proceeded to the open grounds.

Employees at the Iloilo City Hall also evacuated at the height of the tremor.
