Early morning surprised residents in Davao Oriental when a magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit the area at 3:19 a.m.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) determined the quake to be tectonic in origin. Its epicenter has been determined to be 51 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Manay.

The following intensities have been recorded:

Intensity IV: municipalities of Manay, Tarragona, and Caraga in Davao Oriental.

Intensity III: City of Mati and municipality of Baganga in Davao Oriental.

Intensity II: in Davao City.

Though no damages has been reported, aftershocks are expected according to PHIVOLCS.
