Batangas province experienced a significant seismic event this morning. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the region at 8:24 a.m.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately five kilometers southwest of Calaca, also within Batangas province. This tectonic event had a depth of focus of 14 kilometers, as reported by Phivolcs director Teresito “Toto” Bacolcol.

Intensity IV – City of Muntinlupa; Sta. Teresita, Batangas
Intensity III – City of Tagaytay, Cavite; Talisay, San Jose, City of Lipa, Padre Garcia, And Laurel, Batangas
Intensity II – City of General Trias, Cavite; Pateros, Metro Manila; Quezon City; City of Valenzuela; City of Pasay; Obando, And City of Meycauayan, Bulacan; Santa Cruz, And San Pablo, Laguna
Intensity I – City of Pasig; City of Caloocan
The following areas reported the following instrumental intensities:

Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon ordered the suspension of classes in all levels in public schools to give way for the inspection of school buildings. He, however, left it to the discretion of the school’s management in the private schools whether to follow suit.
Phivolcs has cautioned residents to brace for potential aftershocks. It is expected that there may be damage to infrastructure in the affected areas.
