A magnitude 5.3 hit Eastern Samar yesterday evening at around 8:50 p.m. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) determined the quake to be tectonic in origin.

The tremor was recorded some 32 kilometers northeast of Hernani in Eastern Samar. It had a dept of 10 kilometers.

Intensity I – Palapag, NORTHERN SAMAR

This was followed by some aftershocks.

At 9:22 p.m. a magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit at almost the same area this time some 30 kilometers northeast of Hernani.
