Just last night a magnitude 6.1 earthquake was reported in Southern Mindanao which was followed by another moderately strong one.

According to Phivolcs, the first tremor was felt at 9:40 p.m. with the epicenter approximately 118 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos town in Davao Occidental. It has a depth of 20 kilometers and struck at sea.

An aftershock then was felt just 5 minutes later with a magnitude of 4.6.

The following intensities were recorded during the aftershock:

Intensity IV – Glan, Sarangani,
Intensity III – Davao City, General Santos City and Alabel town in Sarangani.
Intensity II – Magsaysay town, Davao Del Sur.

The following are intensities reported when the magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit:

  • Intensity IV – Malungon town, Sarangani
  • Intensity III – Alabel town, Sarangani
  • Intensity II – Kiamba, Sarangani; Koronadal City and Tupi, South Cotabato; General Santos City
  • Intensity I – Kidapawan City

According to Phivolcs aftershocks are to be expected. So far no damages have been reported.
